Mickie James discusses her desire for one more title run in WWE

Veteran WWE star Mickie James spoke with Instinct Culture’s Denise Salcedo on Aug. 18 and touched on a number of topics regarding her on-screen return.

Most interestingly, James expressed her desire to have one more run with as a champion:

“I wanna win one more championship, I didn’t come back, this whole run to not win one piece of gold. And maybe those shiny tag team championships because they’re new, that would be fun. As far as wrestling, I wanna continue to contribute. I do have so much more to give I think on both sides of the arena.”

James, a five-time WWE Women’s Champion and former WWE Divas Champion, last wrestled for a title on Nov. 19, 2018, when she unsuccessfully challenged Ronda Rousey for the RAW Women’s Championship, losing via submission.

The future Hall of Famer’s most recent high-profile championship program took place in the fall of 2017 when she feuded with Alexa Bliss over the RAW women’s Title—a storyline that revolved around the challenger’s age—and fell short in two attempts to win the belt.

Prior to her return, the 21-year pro spent the last 14 months rehabbing a torn ACL, which she suffered during a June 1 house show. She made her long-awaited return on the Aug. 10 episode of WWE RAW, where she traded verbal barbs with Lana and Natalya in a backstage segment. In her first match since the injury, which took place on the Aug. 17 RAW broadcast, James lost to Natalya via countout in a bout that WWE seemed uninterested in spotlighting.

James said that she was “disappointed” with her return, but despite that, she appears to be optimistic about a potential singles feud with the former SmackDown Women’s Champion:

“This is actually my first time really working with Nattie, like in a program kind of thing so I am excited about what we can do together. I mean I love Nattie, I’ve always thought Nattie is one of the best wrestlers we have.”

You can check out the rest of the interview, which is well worth your time, here. James also talks about the differences between performing in front of NXT talent versus an actual crowd, other wrestlers she wants to work with, how she wants to help the women in NXT, and what it will take for someone to fill Becky Lynch’s spot as the top star in the women’s division.
