PWI Women's 100

PWI Women’s 100 Interview Series: #89 Killer Kelly

In collaboration with PWI, Bell To Belles interviewed over 20 women who have ranked on this year’s PWI Women’s 100 ranking. Bell To Belles will release one interview per day, celebrating the past year in women’s wrestling and the strong women who dedicate their lives to the sport.

Killer Kelly, who ranked #89 on this year’s Women’s 100, spoke with Kristen Ashly of Bell To Belles regarding her last year in wrestling, her arm injury, and considering wXw “home”

Last year, Kelly had a standout year, wrestling in about 10 different promotions. This year, however, COVID-19 made for a quiet year for indie wrestlers. Kelly was asked how she has stayed busy in wrestling, these past few months.

Well, being stuck in Germany during the COVID-19 made it really difficult to be busy. But, thankfully, wXw was allowed to do two sets of tapings, so I was back wrestling after a long break. Then the wXw Academy opened up in June, so I was able to be back at training, and by July, I had my own women’s class at the academy. So, it was very fulfilling going from back in March where I had my last shows (wXw 16 Carat Gold weekend and RIPTIDE Wrestling) to all of that.

Noticing how much time Kelly spends working for wXw, Ashly asked Kelly why she sticks around the German promotion.

wXw is home. It’s the promotion who took a chance on me and has treated me wonderfully, ever since. I also got to learn from the amazing minds of Walter, Thatcher, Alexander James…and the Academy is the best in Europe. They’re so professional and they carry such a prestigious name. I 120 percent recommend wXw and it’s academy.

In January of this year, the Portuguese wrestler quietly left NXT UK. Kelly commented on the decision, and how she knew in the long run it was the right decision to remain successful.

Leaving NXT UK was probably one of the most scariest and exciting experiences I’ve ever had. I picked up my phone and wrote my plan, and I was bound to have the most amazing 2020 ever, with a lot of shows, tours, etc. Now I guess it’s time to try to do it all over again!

With recent appearances on the acclaimed wXw Shotgun 2020, Kelly was asked if there was any chance fans would see her on more TV soon, or if she had any meetings for possible TV contracts.

That’s something I’d love to have the answer to, but unfortunately I have nothing to say [laughs]. Maybe let’s talk once I wrestle on the American soil?

Kelly sustained an arm injury in August, and was asked if fans could expect any changes in her wrestling style, because of it.

That was absolutely scary. I injured my arm at the beginning of my last match of the last day of the Shotgun Season 2 tapings, and I probably made it worse wrestling the whole match like that. Then they put a cast on my arm and were saying that it would take me multiple months to recover. I didn’t want to believe it, so I flew to Portugal, met up with my physical therapist, and we worked on my arm day and night. I’m happy to say that it is probably at 95 percent and it will be closer to 100 percent [soon]. The fans absolutely will see a difference, but not because of my arm. They’ll see a hungrier Killer Kelly, one who has been caged for a long while.

Finally, Kelly was asked about her next moves, professionally, and if there were any future plans or goals she wanted to share.

I have a lot of plans and goals, but for now I’ll keep them to myself. But I’m sure wresting will be very good for me. Surprises are amazing, wouldn’t you agree?
