It would seem that the former NXT Women’s Champion, Rhea Ripley, will be off WWE programming following her loss at WrestleMania 36.
On Sunday, “The Nightmare” became the first woman to defend the NXT Women’s Championship at WrestleMania. Surprisingly, she dropped the title to Charlotte Flair after a breakout year in 2019.
According to Mike Johnson of PWInsider, Rhea Ripley went back home to Australia on Monday to renew her work visa, which recently expired.
Many sources have reported that WWE plans to tape several episodes of Raw, SmackDown, and NXT later this week. This would mean that Ripley won’t be back in time to appear on the tapings.
It’s unclear if that was the reason she dropped the title to Flair on Sunday, but there’s no timetable for when she will be able to return. Obviously, delays caused by precautions for COVID-19 will make this a difficult situation to gauge.
Tomorrow, Chelsea Green, Mia Yim, Tegan Nox, Io Shirai, Candice LeRae and Dakota Kai will compete in a Number One Contender’s Ladder Match. The winner will earn a shot at the NXT Women’s Championship on an undisclosed date.
