Rhea Ripley wins women’s Survivor Series match for Team NXT

With a little help from her friends, Rhea Ripley was the last woman standing in the women’s Survivor Series match.

In over 27 minutes of quick elimination action, three teams of five women each took part in a tag team elimination match, known as the Survivor Series match, to add a win to their match record for brand supremacy.

Team Raw was led by Charlotte Flair, with Asuka, Kairi Sane, Natalya and Sarah Logan as her teammates. Team SmackDown was captained by Sasha Banks, and included Carmella, Dana Brooke, Lacey Evans, and Nikki Cross.

But it was Team NXT, led by Rhea Ripley and rounded out with Bianca Belair, Io Shirai, Candice LeRae, and Toni Storm, that finally took home the win, after some interesting in-ring storytelling.

During the first few minutes of the match, amidst all the chaos, Shirai and LeRae seemed to be out of the match, after both women were on the floor outside the ring, complaining of injuries. They were helped out, and the match continued.

The rest of the eliminations leading to the final two competitors happened in this order, followed by the person who eliminated them:

Cross (Belair), Logan (Belair), Carmella (Flair), Sane (Banks), Brooke (Asuka), Flair (Evans), Asuka (herself, after giving the Flair the Green Mist), Evans (Natalya), Storm (Banks/Natalya), Belair (Banks), Natalya (Banks).

Banks and Ripley were the only two left inside the ring, and it appeared Banks had the upper hand on the exhausted Ripley. From the back, LeRae and Shirai returned from their supposed injury check-ups, lending a hand to their captain. While LeRae distracted the ref, Shirai landed a dropkick on Banks. Rhea capitalized by getting the win with a Riptide for the yellow brand.

Ripley’s win for Team NXT is the second example in the weekend of what appears to be a spotlight for the 23-year-old. At NXT TakeOver: WarGames 3, Ripley won the WarGames match for her team, even with a 4-on-2 advantage.
