Wednesday, Ring of Honor announced that there will be a tournament to crown the inaugural ROH Women’s World Champion.
At Quest For Gold, ROH will establish a new women’s title to replace the Women of Honor Championship.
To emphasize ROH’s commitment to women’s wrestling, a new Ring of Honor Women’s World Championship has been created. This title will replace the Women of Honor Title and carry the utmost prestige as only the best competitors will earn its gold.
The tournament to crown the inaugural champion begins with eight first-round matches at “Quest For Gold” on Friday, April 24 at Philadelphia’s 2300 Arena. The tournament will feature talent from all over the world, including some new faces who have never competed in ROH.
The last Women of Honor Champion was Kelly Klein. Klein has been in a contract dispute with the company since they very publicly said: “she breached their existing agreement.”
The last time she defended the title was at ROH Honor United on Oct. 26. Many assumed the company would eventually strip her of the title but it looks like they’re just deactivating it.
Interestingly enough, the Women of Honor title isn’t even two years old yet. The inaugural champion, Sumie Sakai, captured it in April of 2018.
