Sonya Deville Loses WWE Career At SummerSlam 2020

Sonya Deville and Mandy Rose‘s feud came to a violent end tonight in the WWE ThunderDome, the site of SummerSlam 2020.

The feud, which started before COVID-19, started when Sonya took steps to help Dolph Ziggler convince Mandy Rose that her current beau on WWE television and current holder of the Money in the Bank briefcase, Otis, stood her up on their first date.

“The Hacker” exposed her betrayal on the go-home episode of SmackDown before WrestleMania 36. This led to the dissolution of their tag team, Fire and Desire. Both women have traded verbal jabs on social media and WWE programming since calling their partnership quits.

Mandy, who usually capitalizes on her looks and less on her in-ring ability came to the ring ready for a fight in an amateur wrestling singlet, and with her hair slicked back. Forgoing her traditional entrance to, instead, she stalked down to the ring and brought the pain immediately to the former MMA competitor and legitimate badass, Sonya Deville.

Deville seemed understandably shaken and distracted at several points in this match, failing to capitalize on openings she would have previously exploited with zealousness and ease. She seemed taken aback by Mandy’s ferociousness never quite finding her footing in the match and falling victim to Rose’s finisher The Bed of Roses Then, “The Golden Goddess” followed it up quickly with a series of running knees for the pin.

This was an incredibly hard hitting match by normal standards but less brutal than the initial No DQ stipulation led us to believe it would be. Mandy will likely move on to chase after the SmackDown Women’s Championship, while Sonya takes some well-deserved time off at home with her partner.
