STARDOM returned to Korakuen Hall, where Maika, Saya Iida, and Saya Kamitani competed to determine the new Future of Stardom Champion.

The Joshi promotion established the Future belt in 2018 as a way to highlight up-and-coming stars. On Mar. 28, Starlight Kid defeated Shiki Shibusawa to become the inaugural champion.
In February, the second and most recent Future of Stardom Champion, Utami Hayashishita, vacated the title to after her defense against Saya Kamitani. Her new goal is to hold for the “white” and “red belt.”
As such, the Future belt has been vacant for 152 days. Today, Kamitani took on Saya Iida and Maika in a Three-Way Battle for the title.
As a stipulation, the first competitor to defeat both of their opponents would win. Kamitani scored the first fall on Iida to gain the lead.
Then, Maika defeated Kamitani to even the score. Next, Iida scored a fall on Maika to get back into the match.
After Kamitani put down Iida again, she looked poised to avenge her loss to Utami. However, Maika defeated Iida and Kamitani back-to-back to win and secure the Future of Stardom Championship.
In her first year with STARDOM, Maika has become a double champion as she and Donna del Mondo won the Artist of Stardom titles back in February. This win makes the new unit even more fearsome heading into the second half of the year.
