The ten best women’s SummerSlam matches
1. Charlotte Flair vs. Sasha Banks – 2016
As noted earlier, the Three-Team Elimination match a year prior was a peek into what for what women’s wrestling could be. Well, Charlotte Flair vs. Sasha Banks at SummerSlam 2016 was the response and fully formed result of the Women’s Revolution.
In the first in a series of incredible pay-per-view matches, these two former NXT Women’s Champions shatter the glass ceiling. They have great chemistry together, and it’s evident from the start of the match.
The fight took a turn when Charlotte dropped the champion from the top rope, causing her to take a nasty bump on the mat below. From then on, the “Queen” methodically targeted Banks’ back as much as possible.
There are so many crazy spots, near falls, and tremendous variations on the Bank Statement in this match.
At one point, Banks went for a backstabber but her back gave out and Charlotte tried to capitalize with the Natural Selection. Instead, the “Boss” cinched in her finishing move until Flair slid out and planted her with another Natural Selection for one of the best false finishes of the bout.
The finish came when Banks pulled off an amazing tilt-a-whirl rebound and transitioned it into the Bank Statement. However, Charlotte shifted her weight to roll into a pin. Sasha couldn’t react in time because of the back injury and Flair regained the title.
This ending was booked to perfection and it set up more great matches between them in the future.
