The ten best women’s SummerSlam matches
8. Brie Bella vs. Stephanie McMahon – 2014
Surprisingly, Brie Bella vs. Stephanie McMahon was the better women’s match on the card in 2014. It was the culmination of months of storyline that stemmed from, Brie’s real-life husband, Daniel Bryan’s feud with The Authority.
Early on, McMahon brought the fight to Bella, but she responded with a counter and Yes Lock attempt. Later, Stephanie regained control with a devastating DDT and continued to use her strength and size advantage to keep Brie at bay.
Bella eventually mustered a comeback, but Triple H distracted her long enough for McMahon to go for a Pedigree. Brie countered it and locked in the Yes Lock, but “The Cerebral Assasin” pulled the referee out of the ring.
Bella dropkicked him and joined Nikki Bella to corner McMahon in the ring.
Then, in one of the most memorable moments in SummerSlam history, Nikki turned on Brie. She laid her twin sister out with a forearm, which laid the groundwork for Stephanie to finish her with a Pedigree.
In the end, The Authority stood tall as Nikki looked on. The Bellas feud that followed was forgettable, but this was a great way to cap off this storyline and build a new one.
Giving credit where it’s due, Stephanie elevated this match. Her offense was impressive and her heelwork was top-notch, as usual. She’s so fun to root against and that’s what made this entry worth a watch.
