The Kabuki Warriors win the Women’s Tag Titles
WWE announced the match just under two hours before the show started. During the kickoff show, Bliss questioned what the team did earn this opportunity. However, Asuka and Sane positioned themselves as new contenders when they defeated Fire and Desire two weeks ago on SmackDown.
The match was competitive from start to finish with champions using their newfound chemistry to isolate “The Empress of Tomorrow” to start. Interestingly, Sane and Asuka wrestled a more serious, and almost underhanded, style than they usually do.
Asuka, in particular, went for repeated kicks to the head similar to something you would see Shinsuke Nakamura or even Minoru Suzuki do. Meanwhile, Sane snuck in a few shots on their opponents while they were tied up in the ropes. This would play into the eventual finish.
The challengers looked to have the match won when Kairi Sane attempted the Insane Elbow, but Nikki Cross got her needs in time to counter it. Then, she nailed “The Pirate Princess” with a Swinging Neckbreaker but Asuka broke up the pin. Afterward, she dragged Sane back to their corner to tag herself in.
Then in a surprising conclusion, the former SmackDown Women’s Champion used Green Mist to get the upper hand on Cross and pin her to win the titles. The Kabuki Warriors are the new Women’s Tag Team Champions.
Of course, Asuka has used the tactic early in her career before she came to WWE. It will be interesting to see if this is the beginning of a heel turn for them.
