Last week, we commemorated the re-introduction of the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship by ranking all four teams who have held them this year. However, it is important to recognize that WWE didn’t invent women’s tag team wrestling.
That may sound contemptuous but as usual, they get more credit for using concepts others excelled with because of the size of their fanbase. While the company went 30 years without active women’s tag titles, other promotions showcased what female teams could do in the ring in the last 15 years.
SHIMMER, SHINE, RISE, and Stardom all took on the legacy that the NWA started in the early 50s with the World Women’s Tag Team Championship. Those teams deserve their flowers too.
With just three days left in 2019, we would like to look back at the best women’s tag teams of this decade. If you’re scratching your head and wondering if there are that many, you’re in for a treat. This could’ve ballooned up to a top 10 or 20 list, but let’s focus on the top five.
