Women of the 2021 PWI 500: #291 Charli Evans

To celebrate a historical year for women’s wrestling, in collaboration with Pro Wrestling Illustrated, Bell To Belles interviewed over 20 women who have ranked on this year’s PWI 500 ranking, creating the “Women of the 2021 PWI 500” Interview Series. To empower women in wrestling even more, some of the interviews were conducted by the talented women who make up wrestling media.

Charli Evans, who ranked #291 on the PWI 500, chats with Warren Hayes of Bell To Belles on becoming a deathmatch legend, Medusa Complex, and the Australian indie scene.

Bell To Belles as tried to ask nearly every woman on the PWI 500 about their opinion on intergender matches, as each one has a career rich in them. Charli shared her feelings on the systematic borders that seemingly separate female and male wrestlers.

“So, my goal in wrestling in general is to just kill the term ‘intergender’. I don’t think it needs to be a thing that’s even mentioned. There has never been a time where I’ve heard a ring announcer say, ‘The next match is a men’s match.'”

Charli continues by saying her goal is to keep all matches on the same playing field.

“When I wrestle, if it’s a man, if it’s a woman, I don’t want anyone to look at it from a gender perspective. I just want it to be a wrestling match that’s really good. And my gender shouldn’t have to come into it. I shouldn’t be a ‘good female wrestler’. I’m just a good wrestler.”
