Women’s title match set for NXT UK TakeOver: Blackpool II
On today’s episode, WWE added a triple threat match for the NXT UK Women’s Championship to TakeOver: Blackpool II.
Kay Lee Ray will defend her title against the former champion, Toni Storm, and Piper Niven. Ray ended Storm’s 231-day reign in August at TakeOver: Cardiff, to become the first British born NXT UK Women’s Champion.
Since Toni has been missing in action. She recently returned determined to regain the title and make her way back to the top of the women’s division. A week later, Storm picked up a much-needed win against Killer Kelly.
Afterward, Kay Lee Ray attacked Toni from behind, prompting Niven to come out and save her. However, Storm didn’t want her help and she made that abundantly clear when Piper tried to help her up.
Tension between the two has been boiling backstage over the last two weeks. On today’s episode, Ray ran down both Storm and Niven. They eventually came out to confront her, but they couldn’t get along long enough to focus on the champion.
So, Assistant to the General Manager Sid Scala emerged to deescalated the situation. He revealed that “The Queen of Scots” will defend her title against both competitors in Blackpool.
NXT UK TakeOver: Blackpool II will take place on Sunday, Jan. 12, at 12 p.m. EST. It will stream exclusively on the WWE Network.
