Worlds Collide announced for Royal Rumble weekend

Following NXT’s debut at Survivor Series, WWE announced Worlds Collide 2020, which will pit the “black and gold” brand against NXT UK on the night before Royal Rumble.

According to their official announcement, “The WWE Network special, taking place at Houston’s Toyota Center on Jan. 25, 2020, will feature Superstars like NXT Champion Adam Cole, WWE United Kingdom Champion WALTER, NXT Women’s Champion Shayna Baszler, NXT UK Women’s Champion Kay Lee Ray, The Undisputed ERA, Imperium and more.”

Back in September, we reported that there won’t be an NXT TakeOver event during Royal Rumble weekend. This news came when the show wasn’t a part of the travel packages for next year’s event. Later, WWE confirmed this wasn’t an error and Worlds Collide would replace the network exclusive event.

This seemed like a questionable decision at the time because TakeOver has become such a big part of the festivities surrounding each “Big Four” pay-per-view. Now that we know Worlds Collide will feature NXT and NXT UK, this makes more sense.

It’s clear that WWE wants to promote NXT as much as possible now that it’s on network television. This is a great way to do that and get more eyes on NXT UK as well.
