WWE announces release of Zelina Vega
On Friday, WWE posted a tweet announcing the release of WWE SmackDown Superstar Zelina Vega.
The company also linked to a website post announcing her departure, in the tweet. An article that consists of one sentence: “WWE has come to terms on the release of Zelina Vega. We wish her all the best in her future endeavors.”
Shortly before the announcement, Zelina posted the following tweet, publicly supporting unionization. The tweet possibly eludes to issues with the mandated independent contractor status and what that meant for social media accounts for Superstars.
Vega first began wrestling in 2010 under the name “Divina Fly”, debuting in a dark match versus Brittany Savage for National Wrestling Superstars in New Jersey. Prior to signing with WWE, Vega worked for SHINE, WSU, House of Hardcore and TNA for a two-year stint, before leaving the promotion after months of inactivity. Shortly after leaving TNA, Vega had a tryout with WWE, not signing with the promotion until over four years later.
Prior to being released, Vega worked as a manager for Andrade and Angel Garza. Vega had also returned to in-ring action, even facing Asuka for the Raw Women’s Championship at 2020 Clash of Champions, before being drafted to SmackDown.
Bell To Belles is saddened by the news of Vega’s release, and hope she finds happiness in her next venture.
